winter in youth

by Steven J. Serafiani

woke up to a snow globe town
went out to the balcony
sunk my hand into the wooden white railing
shook it off
dried it on my pants
flurries scurried through the ice chest air
heard shrieks echoing
in the field, kids sledding
enjoying winter in youth
unadulterated truth

looked down at my car
covered in inches
grumbled
and
back inside.
