Montalvo, the kid who just moved to this country a year ago, works his ass off and is getting a C minus. Do you see something wrong with this picture? You are not living up to your potential. Fix it.”
My history teacher junior year told me this.
I remember looking at him with eyes wide
probably nodded a few times
then slung my bookbag over my shoulder and went to study hall
probably wrote a story that next period
or a poem
maybe just stared off and dreamed that day.
what did I learn from that lecture?
I wrote a poem about it.
