pointed poinsettia

by Steven J. Serafiani

they gave us all a poinsettia at work today,
to put on our desks,
spread some holiday cheer,
I looked at it for a bit,
dirty soil holding green and red foliage,
put my nose in it,
the sweetness tickling my anterior passage,
placed it in a specific spot,
turned it,
touched one of the dark green dentate leaves,
sat back in my chair,
the first thought that popped into my brain was,
“Damn, now I have to take care of something.”
