i’ll write a happy poem one day

by Steven J. Serafiani

I’ll write a happy poem one day,
perhaps when I get to dole out the minutes to my passion prostitute,
splattering ink on mashed cellulose,
collecting checks without a foreman,

I’ll write a happy poem one day,
perhaps when I meet the one who fills my stomach with monarchs,
my legs akimbo,
to fall asleep with glistening lighthouses,

I’ll write a happy poem one day,
perhaps when I turn my cyclical emotions linear,
when the panic attack paralyzed and ashen days end,
and begin the picnic serene,

I’ll write a happy poem one day,
it may be tomorrow,
but it sure as hell isn’t today,
period.
